Debating Cross-Taiwan Strait Relations:
Emerging Leaders' Perspectives

With the continued absence of dialogue between Beijing and Taipei, and the cut-off of major US-China bilateral dialogues in response to US Speaker Nancy Pelosi's recent visit to Taipei, cross-Taiwan Strait relations are at their lowest point in decades. Each side accuses the other of eroding the "status quo," yet there are different perspectives on what the "status quo" actually is.

Over the last few months, the NCAFP convened a cross-Strait emerging leaders working group with young scholars from the US, Mainland China, and Taiwan to share their perspectives on the current state of cross-Strait relations, how each side defines the "status quo," and policy recommendations for managing the relationship. Following a Track II discussion among the young scholars and their mentors, several emerging leader participants collaborated on a report, "Debating Cross-Taiwan Strait Relations: Emerging Leaders' Perspectives,"  that highlights the different perspectives across the Strait.
