Flashpoint Ukraine: Civil Society in the Current Conflict

IMG_3382On November 18, the NCAFP co-hosted a panel at the Center for Global Affairs, NYU School of Professional Studies on the status of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and the role of civil society and women's groups in that conflict.  This panel brought together Natalia Karbowska, Board Chair of the Ukrainian Women's Fund; Sylvia Maier, Clinical Assistant Professor, Center for Global Affairs, NYU School of Professional Studies; and Grace Kennan Warnecke, Chairman of the Board of the NCAFP.  The audience featured a diverse array of students, NCAFP members and colleagues of our third event partner, the Global Fund for Women.

Ms. Karbowska had the opportunity to share her experiences as an on-the-ground activist and civil society leader while allaying some misconceptions about the conflict itself.  Ms. Warnecke and Professor Maier ably provided compelling questions for Ms. Karbowska and used their expertise to fill in the broader geopolitical context in which civil society groups operate in Ukraine.
